Fraser Coast Council Greenlights Spectacular 18-Storey Sheraton Resort in Hervey Bay

Updated: Aug 12

  • In short: The development of Sheraton Resort Hervey Bay has been approved by the Fraser Coast Regional Council, promising to bring new levels of opulence to Hervey Bay.

  • What's next? Developer Sunny Beach Land is gearing up to commence construction on the controversial 18-storey, 5-star resort, the largest of its kind north of Brisbane.

The approval of the $450 million Sheraton Resort Hervey Bay, spearheaded by developer Sunny Beach Land. The development promises to bring a new level of luxury to the region, with two towering buildings offering hundreds of hotel rooms and residential units along the scenic Hervey Bay esplanade, approximately 300 kilometres north of Brisbane.

Celebrity Endorsement

Among the project's proponents was celebrity Jamie Durie, who has been a vocal supporter on behalf of Sunny Beach Land. "We made a small compromise and got it over the line today, it's a tremendous outcome for everyone involved," Durie remarked, referencing the reduction of the proposed tower height from 21 to 18 stories, including a rooftop bar. This makes it comparable to the Mantra at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.

Commitment to Sustainability

Jamie Durie assured the community that environmental protections were a top priority, including stormwater runoff management and energy efficiency. He emphasized close collaboration with Indigenous communities, residents, and the council to ensure the project's integrity.

Looking Ahead

Sunny Beach Land, proud to introduce the fifth Sheraton in Australia and the most luxurious hotel between Brisbane and Cairns, is eager to move forward. Director Dan Cuda welcomed community feedback and affirmed the developer's commitment to meeting council-imposed conditions, which include maintaining a 5-star rating, completing construction within 10 years, and implementing a best-practice lighting design to protect local wildlife.

The project is poised to create approximately 1,100 jobs during construction and around 350 ongoing positions once the hotel opens. With construction expected to begin soon, Hervey Bay is set to embark on a new era of luxury and economic growth.
